with the sale of nexuiz's name to the illfonic group, many of the community developers have made a fork project, called xonotic
the xonotic site is here: http://www.xonotic.org
it is not released yet, but there are graphical and mapped updates planned. most of which can be seen or previewed by accessing the site.
The names of the developers for this new project are:
DivVerent [GER] : Lead developer
-z- [US] : Lead web developer, Server admin
Dokujisan [US] : Community director, Server admin
tZork [SWE] : Developer, Server admin, Mapper, Modeler
mand1nga [ARG] : Developer
merlijn [HOL] : Developer, Server admin
Morphed [POL] : Modeler, Developer
the official list of changes to be made are:
A more unified and consistent art direction
New player models and animations
New set of default maps, some of them will get a makeover
New sounds and music
New stronger bot AI
Low quality textures will be dropped and replaced with higher quality ones
Some weapon models may be changed
More frequent releases
Global player stats tracking system, supporting anonymous player as well
REMOVAL OF HAVOC MODE :-p
the physics and gameplay of nexuiz is not going to change though.
after all this, perhaps it means we will be playing this instead of nexuiz in the near future?
it seems that it will remain free, and there is a definite open source future. with uncertainty about nexuiz, what does everyone think? should we keep an eye on this project?
please discuss
